72 El Camino LS 6 speed build

I sold my 67 Chevelle LS2 T56 car a few weeks ago. Had 8 Chevelle over the years but this is the first El Camino. Pretty solid car other than the back panel under the window.
I bought an LS-1 with a 6 speed to put in it. Wanting to make a nice daily driver. Nothing too nice.

Not a big deal but you've got 71 turn signal lenses and housings. The headlight trim surrounds might also be 71 I can't tell from the pics.72 HL trim attach to the 72 grill where 71's don't touch the grill. For me I like the 71 style better Best of Luck with your new (to you) El Camino

Re: 72 El Camino LS 6 speed build

I just finished up a 63 Nova SS vert with an LS1 and a 6 speed. Finish it and you won't want to get out of it. We adapted all Camaro parts on the clutch master/slave.

Couple of junkers and a few clunkers.

Yeah, I know they are 71 front end pieces. I am kinda digging them a little more than 72's. Not 100% sure yet which will end up staying. One of them is cracked under the bumper, so I can go either way, just like the lens a little bit better on the 71. Thanks for the encouragement.

I know what you mean. I had an LS-2 (crate motor) with a T56 in the 67 Chevelle I just sold. Put about 12,000 miles (or 100,000 smiles) on it in the last 2 years. So yeah, those are a ton of fun. Especially with a nasty cam in it with exhaust dumps. Yeah Baby

Re: 72 El Camino LS 6 speed build

Been busy since March working on my new daily driver 72 El Camino. Paint is now mostly in place other that a little re-work I need to do on the front fenders where I scratched to paint adjusting the hood. Might do the SS stripes on the hood at the same time.
Here are a few progress pics.

Thanks rak1.

I love it too. Always wanted to paint one this color and kept talking myself out of it and going black or one time red. Glad I finally took the plunge. Black vinyl top is gonna pop against it, I think.

Re: 72 El Camino LS 6 speed build

Well, a long time since any update pics so I thought I would post a couple I took this past weekend. She is slowly inching her way towards the finish line. "SLOWLY" is the key word.

Looks great! Love the color. Very similar to my '64 Chevy II wagon.

Re: 72 El Camino LS 6 speed build

Man you're not kidding. That is pretty close. I used an original "Gulf Green" formula from a 72 El Camino.

That wagon is sweet. Had a couple of em long time ago. Drove one around San Diego for a year, drove it to Oregon, and lived in it off and on up there for a summer. Good times. (course mine didn't look nothing like yours)
