Re: Paulie's 69 El Camino build

The rag joint is shown in this picture, the input shaft on the box has a flat that’s @ 12 o’clock. The 11 mm bolt is correctly on the fender side 3 o’clock position. But the two bolts in the rag joint that are at the 9 and 3 o’clock position are inverted.

This is a picture of the rag joint you can see the copper and the steel bolt is inverted; the smaller copper bolt should be to the block and the silver bolt should be towards the frame or fender side that put my intermediate shaft upside down.

Re: Paulie's 69 El Camino build

While waiting on the steering shaft to come back, I tackled the leaking front brake line. The small line from the master cylinder to the line locks leaked at the M.C. so today I re-bent a new one and took it to Champion 4X4 and had them flare the ends. I put the car back up on stands to pull the wheels to bleed the front brakes. Also while it’s up, I can put on the rear parking brake cables and hardware on, that will be crossing a major hurdle getting functional brakes. I’m sure I’ll have to fabricate a set-up because of the four link. Then I can put the fenders on.

How about third times a charm, if you have a hard time with lines know that you are not alone The second line leaked as well where the shop flared it too, so I made a few trips to get what you see,#3 is an 1/2-20 adapter for the master cylinder then a ready made 12” 3/8-24 hardline to take me out of the equation.

Re: Paulie's 69 El Camino build

Earlier today I went ahead and lifted the back end up as well to drop the rear end enough to remove the rear wheels so we could change from Dot3 to Dot 5 fluid. We bled the rears and fixed a leak at the T fitting so the back is finally solid, then when we started the front we bled the front to flush it out and found line #2 leak. Tomorrow should finalize the brakes. God I hope this is the last attempt needed.

[QUOTE=B52bombardier1;11169332]Start with one circuit at a time. Use a good multimeter to follow the electricity into the fuse box and then out.

You can only eat this elephant one bite at a time. Trace it out one circuot at a time and you will figure it out.

Thanks Bob and Rick that was the right push I needed to find the problem! You guys help a lot.

Re: Paulie's 69 El Camino build

You wouldn’t think these took long but yea, they are the emergency brake cable brackets and took about two hours, mostly the drilling. I mounted them on the inside of the four link bracket to pull them in away from the tire. I’m gonna have to shorten the caliper cable arms a 1/2” because the tip of the cable now drags the rim. But came out nice otherwise.
