69 EC Gas Tank

As I have to replace the gas tank in my EC, I can only find 17 gal replacements.

As the truck came with a 20 gal tank, any ideas/leads on where to find a 20 gal tank?

TIA!

Maybe search for 1969 Wagon tanks?

Thanks Ed.

Don't know if the wagon has the same filler neck as the EC.

GM part number for the EC tank = 3930806.

Use the 1971 tank. Block the two end vents off and install a steel 3/8" gas filter to the center.

Re: 69 EC Gas Tank

71-72 and the California 70 models all have the 17.5 gallon fuel evaporative type tank. Like you I have only seen the 17.5 gallon tank being reproduced. Both tanks are the same physical size but the 17.5 gallon has a large chamber on top for vapor collection.

The wagon tank is completely different as it mounts within the quarter panel rather than in between the frame.

Re: 69 EC Gas Tank

I believe that my 70 EC tank from Tanks, Inc that is plumbed for an in-tank fuel pump is a twenty gallon tank. I can't say if they offer one just like the stock GM tank did in 1970 but this 20 gallon tank fits perfectly.

OK, sorry about that OP! I forgot when they changed the wagon tanks. I have a 23 gallon (supposedly) plastic tank in mine now, from a 1994ish Roadmaster Wagon. Under floor tank with fill neck on drivers side, but not exactly like the original El Camino tank.
