70 ElCamino roof brace??
Can anyone verify if a 70 El Camino is supposed to have a center roof brace? When I bought this car, it had a hole cut in the roof skin for a sunroof at some point in its life, and whoever did it hacked things up pretty nasty. It also had some rust around the windshield and back glass as a result of this sunroof leaking which caused the front and rear braces to rust. So I ordered a new roof skin and roof brace kit. However, the new roof brace kit came with 3 braces.......a front brace, a rear brace, and also a center brace. I see no evidence that this car ever had a center brace. I realize that if it had a center brace, at least part of it would have had to be cut out to install the sunroof, but if they did cut it out, they cut it out so nice and neat that it left no signs of it ever being there. I do not believe whoever did install the sunroof would have trimmed that brace out so neat I can't see any signs of it ever being there after seeing how nasty they cut the roof skin itself. Is it maybe this roof brace kit is for a Chevelle, and just included this extra brace that isn't used in an Elcamino? If so, I'm still a little confused because the markings on the box clearly say it is for an ElCamino and not a Chevelle. It doesn't look like it really needs a center brace since the roof is so small on an ElCamino. Can anyone verify this with your prior experience, or maybe have a car without the headiner in it to look at?
