Tailgate Hinge Repair

I find that a previous owner (the king of short cuts) did a dubious repair of one tailgate hinge. He welded a nut on one side of the hinge and used a bolt from the other side. Since everything is fully painted I don't want to go too deep into repairing this if I can help it. I see they make hinge repair kits. I am assuming I can grind off the nut, drive out the bushing and put it back together. The other side is original and it looks like the pin is staked in. Is that correct. Does it need to be drilled out, or will it drive out, or do they have to be pressed out. If I am going to repair one, might as well do the other. Any advise or comments is welcomed.

Re: Tailgate Hinge Repair

I will look at the spare hinges I have. I am in the process of putting one back together.

Re: Tailgate Hinge Repair

The pin will drive out. The repair kit comes with new pins and new brass bushings. It's an easy job - with the hinge removed. You should be able to save the paint if you are careful.
