Re: Desirable GM Dist.?

Back in 1975 when the HEI’s first came out I had a Camaro. I did not want the HEI. I wanted an Accel dual point. There were literally no advance curve kits or cool yellow wires for them. I liked to play with timing curves. I had a guy who wanted my HEI badly for his older Camaro. It was desirable. Time moved on and now they are not as desirable.

As listing on CbtN, Looking at the vacuum advance, 492 to confirm, that v/a is listed fitting 1112882, which is listed as 1975 Pass, 400/175, all, Chevelle, 400/175 all, Monte Carlo, 400/175 all. Footnotes 3, 10 & V. 3 - color code yellow, 10, green, V - vacuum equipped distributor. Date code: 5C19, 5, year produced, 1975, C, March, Day, 19

Desirable? Not really, mundane $5.00 swap meet unit, run of the mill, coil in cap large HEI, emissions curves.

Re: Desirable GM Dist.?

The black rotor goes all the way to the earliest HEIs. GM changed to a white plastic material with greater insulation strength after the HEI had been out a few years.

I've got a black rotor out in the shop just for giggles. Not many of them left.

Paint it with lead paint and run it.

Since you just lost 5 bucks, stick it in the ground in your backyard and empty your new Glock into it.

It'll make you feel better.

Re: Desirable GM Dist.?

I'll hang it on the wall in the garage and tell my buddies it's an original old HEI distributor VERY DESIRABLE tag LOL
The collector did have some nice stuff like a 67 deluxe steering wheel but they wanted $300 for it, lots of 62-4 chevy II nova inst. clusters and a nice complete 71 Buick GS stage 1 didn't ask price, they said what they didn't sell at the property was going on Ebay, lots of 30's-50's parts

Re: Desirable GM Dist.?

I'd pay more than $10 for every one of those I could find.

There's nothing "special" about it, but it's probably a good core for rebuilding. Beats hell out of buying $60--$150 Chinese junk that doesn't work right when new; and can't be fixed without major work because they did a piss-poor job of "Receive and Duplicate".

Re: Desirable GM Dist.?

Black rotor and white module, a museum piece. Those are probably the original pices on it when new.

Re: Desirable GM Dist.?

That's tempting but Dave Ray helped me out via emails getting the 454 running so good that I really don't want to mess with it, and that's really not like me to not mess with a well tuned engine, get it running bad, curse a bunch, day or two later get it right again and rinse & repeat a month later, just ask my shovelhead lol I was thinking of sending this dist. to Dave for a rebuild for my 489 but I think I'm going with a rev limiter type, Pertronix ?
