Removing ignition key cylinder

1970 Chevelle. I'm trying to remove the cylinder and today I'm making a special tool to insert through the knock out. If this doesn't work. What do I do next? Slide Hammer?

paper clip, I just did mine. Insert your key and turn the switch counter clockwise to the accy, push the paper clip into the little hole next to the key to depress the pin inside and turn the key a little further. It should come right out.

Re: Removing ignition key cylinder

Not sure on a "70" but if memory serves me correctly the early column ign. cyls had a small spring loaded tab that got pushed in to release the cyl? There is a small slot in the housing that the cyl. is in near the bottom, usually covered in casting flash, push a small thin bladed screwdriver in through the slot to depress the tab in. If you have a new cyl. in hand or go to the parts store and look at one you'll see the tab. Not sure what year they started using a screw in the same area to hold the cyl. in? Someone correct me if I'm wrong,it's been awhile.
