Hedman Elite header queston

Hey Guys,

I've been looking and looking... Does Hedman Elite sell a 1 7/8 primary tube full length header that is ceramic coated? I like the Elite because of the thicker flange and 14 gauge tubes.

I'm waiting on a VortecPro 467 and wanted to pickup the headers. I'm thinking the 1 7/8 tubes will give me a little more clearance? Will it? Mark said I could go with 1 7/8 or 2 inch.

The application is a 69 Chevelle non A/C. I would appreciate any header recommendations that don't hang too low, fit nicely without any modifications and keep their color.... that's not asking too much is it... LOL

Thanks in advance!!

I used the 2” Headman Elites in my ‘68 no-A/C ‘68 El Camino SS with Mark’s 467. Fit is beautiful. Way better than a friend’s Hookers in his ‘68.

Do you have a part number for 2” elites?

Shoot: I was wrong. They are 1 3/4. #61198. Sorry about that. My memory isn’t what it used to be. I can say that I did speak with Mark prior to selecting these headers and I’ve been happy with the performance. I necked down from the 3” collectors to a full-length 2 1/2” exhaust system with an X-Pipe in the middle.

LOL - I was about to ask the same thing. I looked online everywhere and couldn't find anything in 1 7/8 or 2 inch for Elite. Seems odd doesn't it?? Why wouldn't they have that size?

Anyone running 2 inch regular Hedman's in silver ceramic? How do they hold up?

Thanks!

Seems really odd. I’m running regular 2” hedmans, had to get them ceramic coated by a place in Joplin, as they came with the black paint. They fit really well, didn’t have to touch them. But, the pass side hangs about 1.5” lower than the drivers side. Had to raise the front end to keep them from scrapping.

Always looking for a different set.

Re: Hedman Elite header queston

I think I'm giving up on Hedmann's.... I can't seem to find an Elite ceramic header in 2 inch.

Anyone out there using the Flowmaster Scavenger Series Elite Headers on a 69 Chevelle with 454? They seem pretty nice, just a bit pricey unfortuneately....

Re: Hedman Elite header queston

Last update - I went with Doug's headers part number D316. Looks like a great product with the tube size and gauge I was looking for. Silver ceramic, 1 7/8" tubes, 16 gauge, 3/8" flange

Any update or pics from the installation on how the headers are fitting? Im going to be in your exact situation in about 5-6 months. I've read some older posts for days here on header recommendations and keep jumping between dougs and hedmans for my 70.

Yeah, I also did alot of reading while going through the process... LOL
But I love the Doug's, the silver ceramic actually looks like chrome. The flange is heavy duty, the welding looks great too. I still have them in the plastic they were shipped in, my intention is to keep them in the plastic until I get the engine in place to prevent scratching. I'll post some pics tomorrow, then put them back in the plastic.

But I'm still waiting on the engine

Jake, I had that same plan when I installed my Lemons headers. Didn’t work to well for me. My suggestion would be to get them as close to the installed position as possible and maybe tie them in place with some plastic ties before you lower the engine. Maybe some towels or something on the inner fenders if you can get them out afterwards.

Re: Hedman Elite header queston

Brad - Thanks for the info! Sounds like a great idea to tie them back. I'll also add cardboard under the car in the header area as well.

Below are some pics of the Doug's (D316) headers, I hope the fitment is as good as they look. Props to my wife for letting me hijack some of the living room with engine parts

Re: Hedman Elite header queston

You might could call Hedman and get the headers coated before shipping? I'm running their swap headers with HTC silver ceramic coating.
