Muffler Hangers

Does anyone out there have any 68 -72 Chevelles that have the original OEM muffler hangers still on their car? These hangers can be very confusing on exactly how they are to be installed on the car. One strap is vertical and the other strap is horizontal. I have a new set to install on my 69 Chevelle but I am getting mixed references on how they are to be properly installed. They are confusing. Some photos would be a big help of an original car with original muffler hangers. Can anyone help please? Thank You.

Re: Muffler Hangers

So, it looks as if the vertical strap goes to towards the inside (near the driveshaft) and the horizontal strap goes the outside (rocker panel) of the car? A photo of an all original hanger would still be nice for reference. I have been misdirected by a poplar exhaust manufacture stating in their A-Body instruction sheet to "install the vertical strap to the outside (rocker panel) of the car. Even the install photos that I viewed for reference showed it this way. It would be nice to have the correct direction and I just thought a photo of a original hanger would tell the story of correct factory installation.

Re: Muffler Hangers

Both straps bolt to a crossmember, one straight up and the other curves around the crossmember, good luck. Doesn't come near the rocker panel!!

Pictures from my 68 GTO. Clamps are the same. Take a close look at the last photo.
