1965 Header Choice

I have a 1965 Malibu Wagon putting in a BBC with factory oval ports. Non a/c car, power brakes, with column shift. I don't care for anything custom. Not a show car. I need suggestions on a good fitting 1 7/8" full length header with 3" collectors, that won't drag the ground (the car is slightly lowered) Thanks to all

Re: 1965 Header Choice

I hear Doug's headers are good for these BBC cars and they tuck up nicely. Someone that has them can chime in.

Hedman Elite, 68198. Heavy metal, ceramic coated, ball/socket connection at the collector, fit snug to the underside, drop right in. And all for a reasonable price.

They are 1-3/4" primaries but do have a 3" collector. Few set ups actually need 1-7/8" anyway.

My engine builder says 1 7/8" will be the perfect sizing for the build, so I'd like to stick with that sizing.

Re: 1965 Header Choice

I have tried several different sets on my 64 with BBC. Most 2 primaries. Hedman 65002, hooker 2455, Dougs D322 and a cheap Stainless Steel procomp set from eBay. The hedmans was worst needed several dings to fit hard to change sparkplugs and flimsy flanges. The Dougs D322 was best both quality and fit. Havnt found any 1 7/8 headers for 64-67 BB chevelle?

My engine will dyno with 2" primaries. I can go with 2" but he recommended 1 7/8" if I could.

Re: 1965 Header Choice

I have a set of Hooker 2" primary 3.5" collectors. They have about a piece of paper clearance on the steering shaft, but otherwise fit well. I haven't experienced the issues with lowering many have, but last time I ran them I had fairly tall front tires (27").

Re: 1965 Header Choice

I used Hooker 2455. They needed a pretty good ding to clear the steering shaft and another to clear the frame on the passenger side. No issues with them being too low though.
