Is anyone successfully running 2 1/8 Hooker Super Competition Headers

I am having clearance issues on the upper control arms and am wondering what people have done. I am switching to BMR upper and lowers with 2" drop spindles anyway but these headers are hitting my control arms on number 8 cylinder. Are the BMR uppers narrower than stock?

Re: Is anyone successfully running 2 1/8 Hooker Super Competition Head

I am thinking I can slide the motor and trans back 1/2" and that should give me the clearances I need. Taller motor mounts won't help me clear the upper control arms. I had to heat them up and give them a little love to get the pad to fit them but they look like they are pretty far forward anyhow. I want to get everything right before I clean up everything and repaint. It's a GEN VI and a 4L80E in a 72. Like I said the stock control arms are going in the trash

Slid the pad back and problem solved, clears everything to include firewall. The motor mounts are correct for the year, I don't know why I had to slide it back 3/4 of an inch. I wish I wouldn't have to cut up fenders but it is nice being able to change oil and starter without removing headers, plenty of room. Painted the Hellwig setup, time for the next project

Well it sure doesn't hurt your front to rear weight distribution to move the engine back some so to me you killed two birds with one stone you improved the cars weight distribution and you got your header clearance

I started wondering how much benefit it is when I was doing it. A few pounds? I have seen people remove firewalls for an inch, I don't think its that serious, I don't want to do the math either lol

installed the cheap jegs, summit, speedway motors upper and lower control arms. No clearance issues what so ever (maybe that is one work idk) https://youtu.be/K-_U_hDPItw
