Which Header Brand

Hooker. Patriot and Jegs all make a ceramic long tube header for mild 396 in 69 Chevelle. I’m leaning towards Jegs.

Any differences in figment or sealing to head ? I don’t want continual maintenance issues.

Which Header ?

Hooker, Jegs and Patriot all sell a long tube ceramic header for mild 396 69 Chevelle.

Any comments on quality ? I don’t want maintenance problems. Leaning towards Jegs (price)

Re: Which Header ?

The Jegs headers will be farmed out to a third party manufacturer. They don’t make items with their name on it. Even if someone gives good feedback, there is no way to tell if they are still using the same supplier.

Re: Which Header ?

I have used both Jegs and Summit headers for different vehicles. I used non coated so I can't comment on the quality of the coating but the fit was good with no modifications ( Small Block 1970 Monte Carlo, Big Block 1977 K10 and Small Block 1976 K10). Pay attention to tube sizes one of the reasons that they can be less expensive is the smaller tubes which also helps in fitment. For me it worked out fine since the vehicles were all daily drivers or tow rigs

Dougs makes nice fit for BB; #325 for 68-72 Chevelle.

Hedman also nice.

Hedman Elite. Great fit. Easy install. Tightened bolts a few times after first install. Haven’t touched them since. 8 years and the still look great, but admittedly they’ve never been wet.

Re: Which Header Brand

I used Patriot for my big block install and would buy again over any other brand. No install issues, no denting, and they still look great - 3 years later.

Re: Which Header Brand

For an off the rack header you can't beat the Hedman Elites. They are made from heavier guage metal. Only issue is after 5/6 years you will have to get them recoated as the coating will be showing some age by that time.

Re: Which Header Brand

Another vote for Herman Elite. Mine went on my ‘68 ElC SS with no drama. A friend used Hookers in his ‘68 BB and the drivers side needed to be relieved to clear both the steering column and the brake junction block.

Hedman Elites are pricey, but we do get what we pay for.

Any love for Jegs’ Headers
on BB Chevelle ?

I don't feel Hedman Elites are pricey. You think they are pricey look up some of the better headers such as Lemons. They are roughly 4 times the cost of the Elites. After fighting with and beating your brand new headers with a hammer most bargain headers you will be wishing you bought the better headers. Plus uncoated headers will contribute to underhood temps.in addition they rust and IMHO there is not a paint on the planet that will hold up on headers. You definately get what you pay for.

Re: Which Header Brand

Have to agree with Brad. My Elites have been on for 8 years. Just now starting to show some discoloration. Fit is excellent no banging or denting needed. Tuck underneath nicely.
