Release button moved around before 69.
Early seats 66/67 may not have even had locking backs?
Metal lower cover shells on early seats also 66/67 as well as back
Maybe some slightly different bucket seats could work - remember years ago looking up Grand Prix seats (69-72) they were
apparently slightly different, but should have bolted in. But Grand Prix buckets as well as Impala buckets not exactly easy to find either.
66-72 are similar... Springs (and therefore cover pattern/fitment) differ between many models. Can usually be used after minor modifications
66-68 did have optional headrests, but not common. 69 went to standard headrest. There are differences between 60-72 headrests, but only matter if you are looking for 100% correct.
1966 did not have locking backs, 67's did (Fed requirement?).
66-72 Cutlass, Lemans/GTO/Skylark, Nova, Impala/Caprice, Monte Carlo, Grand Prix, Toronado, Riviera and Cadillac used the same basic seats. The tracks differed depending on the floor pans (so Cutlass/Lemans/Skylark/Monte (and grand prix?)) will swap in. Impala/Nova, etc will need Chevelle A-body tracks (available repro)Ö But the springs are slightly different on some models (Cutlass thicker at the top of the back than a Chevelle, etc).

I sold my bench seat thinking I'd snatch some bucket seats really quick.
Might not help, but why not place a "wanted" ad on Craigslist. I have picked up a few deals over the years. A few years ago (maybe more than a few), when seats were typically in the $400-$500 range, I placed an ad and was contacted by a guy selling 69 GTO buckets in decent shape, $50 for the pair... Aggravating waiting for him to get off work that afternoon... A friend was looking for 64/65, placed an ad and was offered nice 67 set for $75... Found another guy that had 68 GTO buckets in his '69 Camaro, $75/pair...
You have to be patient, and lucky, but you can still find them...
You should post your location.
