what does the rear tailgate emblem look like for a ss454? the ss396 is one piece but i cant find a ss454. also i have 2 small holes in the tailgate one on either side of the ss emblem. they are plugged with little black rubber plugs. next should the stripe in the tailgate always be black or if the car had white stripes would it be white?
thanks, dick

The tailgate emblem(s) for a 70 El Camino SS 454 are three(3)piece two white(separate)"S"s and one(1)red "454". Same the front fender emblems.
My 70 Elko, when I bought it was badged as a "454" LS5...after some research I found out it originally was a 396/402..so I switched motors and re-badged as an SS 396.
Good luck

Hey Dick, I may be wrong here, but I don't recall the stripes being on the tailgate. I thought that they were on the hood only.

If it ain't broke - break it !!!

I think the area in between the trim on the tail gate should be semi-gloss and/or eggshell black on all SS Elcaminos from 68-72. Mine is, it also has the seperate SS's but I'm missing the engine size script.
