Re: Garage Find / 71 Chevelle SS

Looking for opinions. Thinking of putting new interior in the car. Spot the rear quarter only (use flatner to make it look of age). And just enjoy the car for a while. I got it road worthy yesterday, it hits the road great. Just what you would expect from a car with this amount of miles. I can always do a full restoration at anytime, once I do that I probably would not enjoy as much as I would like it is.https://www.chevelles.com/forums/atta...1&d=1427635467

Re: Garage Find / 71 Chevelle SS

You realy do not want to keep that old Chevelle. It looks yucky !
My best advice is: Get Rid Of It ... SELL it to ME, NOW !

That would be my advice- put a new interior in it and drive it.

That pearl white interior is sweet

Re: Garage Find / 71 Chevelle SS

Had not posted any updates in a while. Decided on the new interior route with leaving the exterior as is. New BFG/ TA's repainted the wheels restored the trunk and interior. Cleaned engine compartment and applied some Patena, a product made by Man Made Legends out of Mooresville, NC. Here is some updated pics.

Car looks nice as it is, drive it and enjoy it. You don't see cars like that at all anymore, brings you back to the 70's seeing cars like that driving around. It reminds me of my Royal Plum 67SS and I get compliments on it all the time.

Re: Garage Find / 71 Chevelle SS

I like the direction you took with the car. Neat car! Low on options but some important ones are there, like the "400" 402, rare h.d. 3-speed (tell me you still have the original shift ball), F41 (a standard SS item), gauges (with BBC redline), plus a good looking air cleaner that looks similar to the LS5, non AC, non Cowl Induction type, plus the lighter bench seat (the color is known as "Sandalwood"). The 3-speed h.d. trans is more than adequate for most driving, especially when you have the torque of a big block in front of it combined with a willingness to rev if need be. I think your car is very cool. You were lucky to find and get it.

Tell me, does it have Positraction? It also looks like manual steering (no h.p. draw).

As far as the 3 speed trans behind a big block,I remember reading that if no optional trans was ordered then the 3 speed Muncie HD aluminum case trans would be the standard trans. However most people that wanted a stick usually ordered one of the optional 4 speed transmissions.
I think if you went an ordered a Super Sport Chevelle and did not order an Automatic trans or an optional 4 speed trans then you got the floor mounted shifter HD Muncie 3 speed as standard equipment.
I don't think that changed until GM started making automatics the standard non-optional transmission sometime in the mid to late 70's.The Impala was the first of the Chevy's to get an automatic as the standard non-optional transmission.
Those facts are also true for the Buick GS cars.
