1966 original front metallic brake shoes

Do 1966 original front metallic brake shoes look like this? I searched the part number and don't see it.
My 66 SS (41k miles) has its original front brake pads and they look similar to this.

Re: 1966 original front metallic brake shoes

I used GM metallic brake shoes on many of my 57 Chevys. They looked very similar, but mine were 11 inch brakes instead of 9 1/2. The hotter they got, the better they worked. Had to push really hard the first stop every morning though. I'd use them again in a heartbeat.

I think an original metallic brake 66 had a master cylinder with a different bore size. Maybe Jeff can verify.

I am pretty sure the older pads and shoes still used asbestos up to or possible later then the 70's which we all know the dangers of that stuff. I would just get a good set of over the counter brakes pads or shoes and not have to worry about it.

Re: 1966 original front metallic brake shoes

Cars that had the semi-metallic brake shoe option uses a master cylinder that had a 7/8 inch bore all the way back to 57 on passenger cars and Corvettes, standard asbestos based shoe cars had a m.c. with a 1 inch bore. I kept my 1 inch bore m.c. whenever I used metallic shoes, and the standard drums that came with asbestos shoes. Parts counter guys tried to sell me the special drums for the metallic shoes, but my originals worked just fine. I think the drums that actually came on cars factory equipped with metallics may have been finned.

Occasionally there is a question that just needs a simple yes/no answer!
Even though I can never seem to get one of those simple answers from my girlfriend ...
