Re: Weird looking VIN on a 1969 Chevelle on ebay

Dean, it appears that "Ebay" has removed the original one I posted, but I have found several others that appear strange to me compared to mine?

Just not very straight?? Making me think possibly faked?? The original one I posted was really strange to me?? If they don't look odd to you maybe that's just the way the were stamped back in the day?? Just an observation.

Re: Weird looking VIN on a 1969 Chevelle on ebay

Those all look good to me. LA was known for having partial Plates ready to be "filled in" so to speak. Which is why they look "gappy."

I would think "the perfect plate" would be much more likely to be an aftermarket / replacement plate. The folks who reproduce ghe plates have a lot more time to turn them out, and are paid better per piece.

The average POS plate swapper is going to take an existing, bodyless plate (with a title card) and swap it onto a different car.

In response to Alwhite00's post: I'm pretty sure it's not since I've owned it since late 1970, but thanks for your input!

Re: Weird looking VIN on a 1969 Chevelle on ebay

Fremont CA built 69 Chevelles (the 'Z' in the VIN) all had peculiar looking VIN plates, like the first two shown in Dean's post above. I remember the first time I saw one, many years ago, and I found it suspicious, too.
