1970 chevelle SS cowl induction question

hello all on the air cleaner on my cowl induction is the rubber seal,i see it says rear does the metal ring have to be secured with a screw or just lays there. thanks

Just lays in place using the flanges to position it within the air cleaner base.

The backside of the flange has a raised up section with a U shaped notch. That sits over the rear clearance for the distributor. The flange just sits a top the filter base. The goofy cut out in the flange sits to the right rear to clear the a/c suitcase and vacuum resevoir on the firewall on a/c cars.

The attached picture is for Levon. Notice the rubber flange is mounted incorrectly. To install correctly you flip it inside out and upside down from how it's installed on this car. The ring or void in the top of this seal is the actual mounting point on the flange. The above video shows the process.
