3947824 bv pulley

Just purchased a used w/p pulley for the L78 and have never seen this before.
The stampings look correct but the hub has 8 pinch marks where they stamped the inner reinforcement in place. These press impressions dimple the outside of the hub dramatically. Is this normal or someone's attempt at making a repop more authentic? I understand the repops don't have those pinch marks.
I'd post pics but it's tough to see in a pic. Easy to feel if you just grab the outside of the hub and you'll notice the distortions easily.
Need to call this guy out if he sold me a fake.

I think those were spot weld marks.

Re: 3947824 bv pulley

Not spot welds, more like a die press stamp that should be focused directly on the lap of the inner reinforcement at 8 increments. Again, the repops don't have these and it would take a heck of a force to do this, much like a hydraulic press. If someone was to do this on their harbor freight press, they could very well make some penetrating distortions that were not intended and without a watchful eye, the damage was done before they would notice. Anyone with an L78 that can message their pulley for me??

Re: 3947824 bv pulley

Brian, the concern I have is not the pinch marks but the distortions penetrating to the outside of the cone. They are dramatic on this piece making it look somewhat like an octagonal nut from the outside.

I'll have to take a closer look at mine, but I don't think it is as bad as you are saying yours is. I do know that I noticed it when I put it on. Got any pictures?

With the upper pulley installed, the 'impressions' caused by the tooling used to manufacture the pulley are all but imperceptible (by sight) on my engine, but they are definitely there when I feel around the perimeter of the pulley. They are subtle, but perceptible and very consistent by feel.

So this is it, not sure you can see the bumps/impressions but they're quite obvious by the touch. I can see them in the pics because I know they're there. This wasn't the case when I viewed the ad on ebay. The number stamps look authentic and I've seen the repops and they appear much deeper and slightly different font.

Judging only by the photos...if I had to guess...I'd say it looks to be genuine GM, but then I'm no expert.
