Re: 66 ribbon cable clip

Thanx for the follow-up, Rich. Good Info.

Yes, good point about a possible botched factory job on my friends '65. This cable routing looked just as hoaky in person, too.

Unfortunately, my car does not have this retainer for the brown clip. I cannot even see evidence where one might have been spot welded on. Good thing it's not all that important at this point!

Re: 66 ribbon cable clip

To take it one step further does the clip on ribbon portion of the dash harness attach to the welded loop on the dash above the bendable loop for the big bundle of the dash harness?

Sorry photo is turned 90 degrees.

Re: 66 ribbon cable clip

Gary, your picture is too close for me to accurately ID what I'm looking at.

Attached is a picture showing the "hat" shaped bracket this is welded under the dash for the upper end of the ribbon cable to clip onto.
The other bracket (just above the "hat" bracket) is a plastic coated metal piece (also welded under the dash). This holds the dash wire harness.

I hope this is what you were asking about.

Re: 66 ribbon cable clip

My photo was a closeup of the hat and welded strap with the ribbon clipped onto the hat. Yes it answers my question. Thanks.

Another question..what is the pinkish material on the upper firewall? Was there some type of sound deadener? Mine has that but I can find nothing in the AIM.

Re: 66 ribbon cable clip

That material is what's left of the factory insulation pad & glue that was added to the underside of the dash. That pad turns to dust after 50+ years on our cars and needs to be replaced.

There was a recent thread about choices of replacement pads. Jeff Helms has put in the effort to get accurately sized pads for our 66 & 67's manufactured, but I believe those are not out yet.

Re: 66 ribbon cable clip

I assumed it was a pad of some sort. I am not doing a correct restoration so I might use a sound deadening material there, under the carpet and inside doors. Mine is more visually correct. Thanks.

REM has the insulation cutter made and the parts are now being made! You will have to buy it through one of the retailers that sells their parts. I am not sure how long it will take to get into the retailers catalogs and websites.
