Re: eletronic exhaust cut out

I have been wondering this same question. My question would be if Dave Kindig's company in Utah on the Velocity Channel would sell a pair of his without the car being in his shop.

I don't remember seeing anything like his in a catalog anywhere.

Re: eletronic exhaust cut out

I have Kindigs on my 70, they are awesome!

I like to run them at about 10% open when froggy. 100% if I have a jerk who doesnt realize his radio is too loud and shut if I am just in a chillin mood.
The installers liked the quality but who knows how long they will last.

Re: eletronic exhaust cut out

Yours appears to have a thick spacer between the body of the device and it's electric motor. This can only be good to protect the motor from the heat of the exhaust.

Sounds like you have done your research. The leading cause of failure I have read about about was the electronic engines getting too hot and to make sure they are mounted so they are protected. We will see.....

Re: eletronic exhaust cut out

If this is part of a restoration project, why not look for an original GM cutout?

Re: eletronic exhaust cut out

I know Pontiac had the cutout with a choke pull-cable type set up for the exhaust cut outs but did Chevy have them as well or was this a dealer option type of thing ?

Looks like you can buy the Kindig cut-outs on your own.

I like it...

Step 1) Enjoy your normal exhaust while driving
Step 2) Get ready to impress onlookers and haters
Step 3) Press switch to activate cutouts to "open" mode
Step 4) Perform gigantic burnout or warp-like acceleration
Step 5) Press switch to close the cutouts, and return to "normal" mature behavior.

Re: eletronic exhaust cut out

I see people with those electric cut outs always working on them.. A friend bought a pair a few years ago, paid over $500 for them, they were nothing but a royal pain in the a$$..

Real men uncap headers...

I'd invest in a good pair of mufflers like Porters or Brockman Mellow tones..

"Invest" in mufflers, really? That seems like a stretch, but I have spent plenty of money on high end mufflers and I think I know what you mean.
Not the same.
You dont have a permanent droning humm with these which can become annoying on long cruises. These are adjustable at the drivers seat unlike modifying the headers or mufflers. They might be a pain in the future, the jury is out as they are only about a month old. If I wanted to change from the mufflers it would be done, but these are a better option I feel.
