Posi is limited slip. If you have a standard differential now and you want to upgrade it to a limited slip differential then you will need a 3 series Eaton Posi, Eaton Truetrac, Yukon Dura Grip or whatever limited slip differential you choose. You will also need bearings and shims to set the backlash and bearing preload.

This is also when you need to decide if you want or need stronger axles, now or eventually.

If you decide not now, but later change your mind (stronger engine, etc.), you'll need another new posi-unit to match the spline-count on the upgraded axles.

Its that issue, Big Elephant Engine , Now from the crankshaft to the rear tires and everything in between. The Cash register starts to go " Cha-Ching " a day or two pause, Then Cha-Ching again and again.
Old cars are like a Willie Nelson song, " You got the Money Honey, I got the time ".

Rex, there are a 1/2 dozen choices on performance axles that are 30 spline.

Couple of junkers and a few clunkers.

Re: 1972 Chevelle SS 454 convert limited slip

I don't recommend using 33 spline axles with c clips. If you upgrade to 33 spline axles you need to install new housing ends with press on 9 inch Ford axle bearings, or at least use c clip eliminators. 33 spline axles are almost the same size as the c clips, so there is a chance that you could loose an axle. Moser doesn't make 33 spline axles for the 12 bolt with c clip buttons. For most street cars the 30 spline axles are plenty strong.

You do need to check the axles for wear where the bearigns run on them. If they are worn or pitted then they need to be replaced.

Yep, I upgraded to the 33-spline axles
with the Ford Torino "big-bearing" ends
on the new Moser.

Ready for engine upgrade, should that come along.

Very nice knowing it's ready, whenever I (or the next owner) might need it.

The Moser build-choices were my "ounce-of-prevention".

Eaton Posi 19554-010 3 series posi

Few other goodies but this is the basic setup.
