12 Bolt upgrade

It is time to upgrade my 12 bolt rearend.
I do many street miles, always driving to/from the track, cruising and so on.
Chevelle Ė69 3860lbs raceready.
Transbrake 4000rpm and front wheels will see a little bit of air.
Best ET 10.63 127mph so far.

My goal is to go high 9:s, but not faster in this car.

Rearend have steel bearing caps, Eaton clutch plate posi and stock 30 spline axles with c-clip eliminators today.

I have to change the axles to better quality, but will 30 splines with c-clipeliminators and my posi be enough?

I think I'd change the differential. I'd be worried that the clutches on one side might give up and put you in the wall. That's a lot of power for a Eaton Posi. I think the Detroit Locker is a good differential for that type of use. You can get it with 33 splines.

Re: 12 Bolt upgrade

I think the Detroit Locker is a good idea.
35 splines and a spool is cheaper, and will do the job at the strip.
But how is it driving around town?
Maybe i will go with 33 splines and a spool.
Then I can swap in a Detroit Locker or other posi later if I want to.

Or, is 30 splines and a spool enough in my case?
Then I have the option to go back to stock Eaton posi again.

Re: 12 Bolt upgrade

I don't think I'd use 30 spline axles if I was running in the 9s.
