Re: T56 6 speed

Hey with the T56, you will not want anything lower than a 3.73. With 4.11 , 1st gear wont even be there long enough to take off and shift.I would get a 3.55 or higher(numerically lower)personally. Just remember these are geared super low in first.

Re: T56 6 speed

The T56 doesnt have that low granny gear in first.
I have 4.11s a 27 in tall tire and love it, 1st isnt too low at all. in fact switching to a 25-26 in tall tire, should be even funner.
The TKO trannies use that low 3.27 1st gear (pretty sure) so inthat case with a low rearend gear yes its hard to use.

There is one yr (not sure so double check) 93??? that used a 2.97 1st gear

Re: T56 6 speed

Agree with 67T56-

I run a 3.89 gear in mine and it's bitchin'. Pulls hard off the line and delivers 20+ on the fwy in 6th. LOVE the T56!!

Re: T56 6 speed

+2 on what Elky said...only 93 had the steeper first gear but it was a weaker trans. After doing research, most told me that 3.73's to 4.11's were best with the T56.
I'm going to be running 4.10's with mine. Had a TKO w/ 3.73's in my '91Z, 1st was super steep but great for hard launches, cruising around town, I started off in 2nd most of the time.

Not a 65, but you will see how much I had to remove for a 71.

I want a t56 so bad but man are the aftermarket ones expensive!!!

I apologize if this has already been covered but has anyone been able to run a console with the t56 in a 70-72?

Got it. Lots of work in a 71. I am doing a 65, and wondering if there are any "gotcha's" in the job. I don't want to get started and realize i have to cut the car in half to put the last bolt in...
