Unknown Linkage on 1969 Chevelle

I give up-anybody know what this linkage goes to? Still slowly pulling apart my 69 Chevelle; car is supposedly original 4 speed, but when I acquired it had an automatic in it (tranny hump was 'cut' and looked like a '66 shifter sprouting out of the floor-see below pic from the ebay ad when I bought it). Not sure what purpose this linkage would have in a manual transmission, unless someone swapped out the steering column for whatever reason. Also, here's a pic of my steering column where it goes into the steering box; is this what it's supposed to look like on an SS (my car is supposed to be an SS, but there's no build sheet and a lot of pieces were gone when I got her, I.e., holes for badges but no badges, hood, dash cluster). Thanks for the help!

i suspect it is the backdrive linkage;
IIRC in 69 the cars were to be in reverse, with clutch depressed to start..
the linkage was to turn the column, to allow it to start??
i could be mistaken though...

Reverse lockout linkage, to remove key from lock cylinder in reverse. Should be a bracket on frame to reverse linkage.

From the pictures you have it was a big block four speed with a bench seat.
The intermediate shaft on the steering column is for a big block Chevy.
The linkage coming off the steering column goes down to the swivel that bolts to the frame for a four-speed and you need one more rod that goes from the swivel that goes to the reverse rod on the four-speed transmission.

Thanks for the help! And, thanks, John; knowing the steering column is for a big block gives me a warmer fuzzy mine is an authentic car.
Now, to find a replacement for the missing rod...

Joel,
If you post a picture of the body tag up on top of the left corner of the cowl you will be able to find out exactly what the car was including paint code where it was built and so on, and if it's a true SS which most likely it was judging from the pictures you posted.

Thanks! Car showed up 'burgundy', but you can see the original color in places (esp. w/the fenders off & under the sil plates). Here's the body tag:
