Jerico or M23

I have been doing a lot of research on transmissions and need some help with my next decision. We always need info on the car and its intended purpose, so I will start with that.

It's A 1957 Ford (shut up and help me out here) Thunderbird. It weighs 3,100lbs. 1,500 front and 1,600 rear, 102" wheel base. The engine is an all aluminum 582 big block chevy (now are we good?) and I it have set back as far as I can. At this time it is making 752hp and 698trq on pump gas 91. I know it is mild, but that's what I have, and for now it is fine. The transmission is a Richmond 6spd, and I don't know the ratios that are in it, but I don't use 5th or 6th gear, and want a 4spd. The scatter shield is dialed in perfectly, and the Centerforce DF clutch has worked flawlessly. Inland Empire aluminum drive shaft with1350 Ujoints. The rear end is a 1959 olds 9.3 with 4:30 gears. The rear slicks are 31"x10.5". It is a nostalgia gasser drag car. I shift at 6,600rpm, and have no electronics to set for launch rpm, but It is around 5,000 rpm. it hits real hard and pulls the wheels up with ease. It is driven very hard, and on the street to a few local car shows here in Phoenix.

I have been looking at the Jerico with the road race sliders for a while now, and now I see AEG is making a M23 Ncase transmission that may be able to withstand the abuse I will be dishing out. I know the Jerico is based off a Ford (that word again) top loader, and the M23 is based off the Muncie.

Does any body have any real world experience with either of these transmissions that can help me out? What gear ratios? This is strictly 1/4 mile racing.

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Re: Jerico or M23

If you don't want to ever blow the trans up, pick the Jerico, but I'd revisit your clutch. Have you torn into it and inspected for slippage? The Jerico is best behind an adjustable dual clutch that you can dial a little slippage into it since it's such a positive shift without the use of the clutch. If you love that DF and you're confident it'll do what you're asking, think more towards the Muncie on steroids. I personally don't have any experience with a stout Muncie but love the fact they're so much stronger than what we had back then.
I do have experience with the Jerico and you can chip the dogs if nothing gives during your shift.

Most South East Gasser cars run Hightower Transmissions which I’m told are Jericho related.

Re: Jerico or M23

I ran a M23 in my 427 Camaro for 2 years and went 11.17 with it. I used the Z series gears, but I recommend what Autogear calls the "Tommy' gears. I'm switching to that set of gears this year in a new N24 transmission.

Re: Jerico or M23

AGE M23 rated at 800 fl lbs. Jerico may be a freckle stronger, but AGE M23/4 is a dream on the street. G-Force also makes a great box.

PS my old 427 made its way into a Ford nostalgic drag car, which I hope to race soon!

How do I get more info on this N24 with Tommy gears? All I can find is the M23Z, which seems like a very good Trans for my application.

Call Nathan at Autogear. 315 471 8143. Tell him you want to know about the transmission that he sold me.
Here is my M23 build. https://www.hotrodders.com/forum/aut...ld-468129.html
