differential yoke size?

why did chevy install different size yokes on the differentials? the first 2.73 12 bolt had the regular 1310 u joint, swapped it to a factory 3.31 12 bolt open and it has the larger joi t so I needed the conversion u joint. Going to swap it out soon for a rebuilt 3.31 posi which was originally a 2.56 open and it's got the 1310 u joint again. jim

Re: differential yoke size?

That 3.31 rear end must have come out of a 454 car.

Re: differential yoke size?

Check the code on it. May be from a LS5 or LS6 automatic Chevelle. I don't know of any others that used that yoke.

Re: differential yoke size?

The rear yoke on my 454-LS-5/M-22 is a "G.M.-9210". The yoke may be for a 1970- " 3-R " driveline.

Re: differential yoke size?

The actual U-joint size on the 454 Chevelle large differential yoke (9210) is a 1330. The driveshaft had 3R joints up front, and a 3R/1330 conversion joint at the rear.
