Not for nuthin, but what reason would anyone have for cutting the housing ears off anyway? I've never heard of anyone doing that. Sounds like a real hack job to me.
I bought a chevelle rear for my nova a few years ago. seller cut the eyes installed the correct multi spring perches and looking at it, it looked like a factory F body 12 bolt.
I could just install camaro perches and trade it to a camaro, firebird, nova guy. jim
Center housing might be ductile cast iron , or cast steel. Either case , its weldable. I have never tried to solve a problem such as you have , my only experience is welding the tubes to the center section , and it doesn't act like cast iron then. Cast iron is weldabe , but procedure is critical. It will break just beyond the weld without proper preheat and heat control and stress relief
