Anyone here ever run a powerglide and a gear vendor OD unit?

Just curious, and would love to hear opinions from those who have used the combination.

A lot of Power Tour guys do. You can build a shorty 'Glide with Vendor that is the same length as a TH400. Seems like a pretty awesome setup to me, but no, I've never driven one.

Assuming stock 1st gear ratio (v8 glide), the math says:
1.76-1.37-1.00-.78

First over(1.37) to third(1.00) would be a touch tricky, hitting the button and shifting the lever manually at the same time. Or you could leave it in OD and go straight to .78.

I was sort of thinking the same thing. Especially as I'm going to use a horseshoe, and there's no real good way to put the button on that. I'd end up with the dimmer switch on the floor and I just don't think it's going to be comfortable/coordinated that way.

Another question: has anyone used a GV with a manual valve body? I have run a manually shifted TH400 for years, and was kind of hoping to stay with the manual shift (and reverse pattern).

Since the GV is independent of the transmission itself, it really doesn't matter if you have a reverse pattern or a manual valve body.

Your just jealous because you can't hear the voices!

Why go through the expense of Gear Vendors. Just put a 400 in it and run less rear. I was running 3.42 rear, starting off in 2nd gear and running 1.70 60' times. Reality, I could've dropped rear ratio by 20%.

I guess what kind of car is it and what are you trying to do with it. A street car you need a steeper gear off the line so I would agree with guy above maybe do a T400. IF race car and you just want that extra gear to do some cruising then I could see that. I have a T400 with a GV and it works great and I am a street car 540 CID with some trips to the track (3.73 12 bolt with GV goes to a 2.90).

I had one of those Shiftworks detent gates in my old horseshoe and it worked nicely. I did have to modify it a little..
