Looking for a mail order th350

Does anyone have any suggestions on which companies are good and which ones to stay away from?

Re: Looking for a mail order th350

Anyone but monster. I bought a monster stage 2 turbo 400 and they did not install the correct speedo gear set. I called and the bimbo I talked to didn't know jack chit! Claimed it was my fault and my problem. Ended up talking to someone at I think TCI or the like and got it close enough. Also after 3 years of beating on it pretty good the torque converter they sold me chit the bed. The trans is good still but poor customer service.

There's not really any voodoo in building a TH350. I would get one locally and with a warranty. I've built a few myself successfully and I'm just a guy. So any competent local trans shop should be able to make you happy. You'll save some money that you can spend on a nice converter.

If you're deadset on getting one shipped I would use Jake's. I buy all my parts from them.

Agree with Tom. Go local on anything too heavy to ship back to vendor at your expense for warranty service.

Re: Looking for a mail order th350

I second getting one locally. I bought my 2004R from a place in CA, I'm in NY. It had a issue. Now in my case the shop I bought it from stood behind their work and talked me through the fix but I had to drop my pan 3 times and change stuff out until he could troubleshoot it and send out a new part to make it right, not to mention about 15 phone calls back and forth. Had I gotten it locally it just would have gone back. On the plus side, I now know a lot about my transmission.

The converter and poor service are one thing, but I'm not sure it's standard practice to get the speedo gear right at transmission shops. Unless, of course, Monster promised it would be right when shipped.

My buddy bought a TH400 from acclaimed builder ATI and they told him he was on his own when it came to getting the speedo gear set right. They were just going to install whatever they had in stock that might be close.

That would be the best. You don't say where you are you could be close to someone that does good work.

Re: Looking for a mail order th350

Get it local, a decent trans shop should be able to build a very good/strong T-350 with their eyes closed and like everyone else said if you have a problem just take it back, no shipping $$$

Good local technicians are easy to find: Ask at car shows, ask car club members. After crashing and burning with TCI I asked around and found a shop a half mile from my house that "everyone" goes to.

Same thing with the exhaust: found a Muscle Car guy who slaves over import car exhaust systems all day long and he was pleased as punch to work on my 'Bu. Beautiful workmanship and a nice change up for him. The hour he took my 'Bu for a "test drive" seemed a byte excessive...
