TKO 600 Installed

Picked up my 70 yesterday after having the TKO 600 from Silver Sport installed. Went in very easy with just a very minor modification around the shifter hole. NO tunnel mods needed. Only got to pull it up and off the trailer and drive it into the garage but the hydraulic clutch sure feels nice!.

Now just need spring to get here so I can road test it.

Re: TKO 600 Installed

I have a TKO 600 in my 70 also, I absolutely love it and I think you will be real happy with yours. I've got the one with the close ratios and with 3.73 gears in the rear it's a good. combination.

Cool. When the weather improves, come over and give me a test ride. I'd love to check it out. I'll settle for a video.

Re: TKO 600 Installed

I just had a TKO 600 installed, with hydraulic clutch, in December. The weather needs to warm up some more so I can drive the $#it out of the car. Cmon spring, dammit!

Hey Al,

I do hope to do more highway driving this year but Cali may be a bit of a stretch!

Any mods to the cross member or holes in the frame to move it forward or back?

They made some minor mods to the crossmember to get everything to fit up properly. Said they basically just modified the perch where the trans bolts to the crossmember.

Great thanks for the info. I'm in the process of building my 65'. I too went with the TKO 600 with the upgrades. I'm probably overbuilding the car but I'd rather pay a lil now than more later. I'm going to be fabing my crossmember.

Re: TKO 600 Installed

Iíve been considering going to the TK 600 as well. I spoke with the guy at Silver Sports Transmission about this. My concern was the need to modify the tunnel for proper clearance. He told me that most 70 Chevelles need some modifications due to body mount bushings collapsing over time, thus lowering the body onto the frame. Also, it seems almost mandatory to go to a hydraulic clutch release vs mechanical stock.

My other option is the Gear Vendor overdrive unit to reduce highway revs. Itís about the same cost, give or take $200. My Muncie M20 is in good shape other than 1 to 2 sticky shifts. Still kicking this around so I really enjoyed reading of your experiences. It sure seems all of you are thrilled with the TK. Apparently some of you had it done at Silver Sports. I didnít know they also installed them.
