Fan Clutch and Fan

Looking to replace my after market flex fan with more of the period correct look using a clutch fan for my 70 454 with AC 3 row radiator.. Its a convertible so I never use the AC .. Reading previous posts ,, Just want to confirm purchasing a 772 7 blade Fan from GM restoration parts with the Hayden 2747 Theramal fan clutch from Rock Auto seems the way to go.. Just want to confirm before I make the purchase

Thanks in advance

Re: Fan Clutch and Fan

This is a MAJOR " IF " ?? If your 1970-SS 454 came with factory C-60, The Rad. would be a 4 row Harrison. Along with the C-60 Pkg. AKA " VO-1 " cooling.
You have the large opening in the core support,-- Factory fan shroud-- Eaton fan clutch--394772 fan blade.
IF, your 1970 SS 454 is a 4 speed, The Rad. tanks will be stamped- " XJ " & " IF ". Also, If you 454 is a four speed, You will not have an idle screw on your 7040205 Q-Jet, You will have a Decel unit in place ( Its about the size of a sewing thimble). 70, A/C equipped Chevelles/El Caminos/Sprints all had, VO-1 cooling.

Re: Fan Clutch and Fan

Not disagreeing with Robinls5 at all, but if being exactly part number correct for your application is not an issue, then YES, 772 fan & Hayden 2747 clutch are absolutely the way to go.

Looks like I have the short water pump .. Measure about 5.75 ? Would the Hayden 2747 clutch still work or does that not matter ?

Re: Fan Clutch and Fan

Just a suggestion, I would try to get everything ( parts & Pieces) in the area of a stock 1970. Then as you make progress and spend money.......... It will all go together, And you will have not have future issues.

Re: Fan Clutch and Fan

So if you have a Plastic/Nylon Shroud ( a must ) on the car now that covers the whole Rad Core
then you will want the New Fan/Clutch to be 1/2 IN and 1/2 OUT of the Opening
by getting the right length of Spacer for it
