69 350 AT no ac NEED RADIATOR

Hi

I have a leak starting in my core of my original radiator. Might be time for a new one.
I have 3 Bolt Top Plate
69 350 AT non AC car.
Original radiator core is like 22 inches.
Total width is about 28 that includes the tanks. Most radiator are much bigger for BB or AC cars. I also would like to keep it original looking as possible.

I am guessing that if I went with a bigger one it would require cutting my core support on the driver's side to open things up like a bb core support. Plus a 4 bolt top plate and a new shroud. Rather not do all that.

Any ideas for a good replacement?
Thanks!

That sounds too short for a 69 A body? Even the low hp non ac rads in those cars should be the same width as the bb models. Just smaller cores. Sounds like someone replaced it with a 2nd gen nova unit.

Anyway, you should have no problem putting a BB radiator in the car. The length is going to be around 35" counting the tanks.

Fool around, get hurt, don't come crying to me.

Go with putting the Biggest Stock type Rad that will fit in your car

as I am sure you will not regret it

Its the original radiator according to the date tag.
Also, it fits the complete opening in the core support.
Anything bigger would go past the core support opening and be useless.

Ill get the pictures up.

I took some.

Also, i.know the history all the way back.
None of this was touched.

I want to do that BUT my core support doesnt open that wide.
It would need cutting. Id rather not at this point.

I posted a PIC ^^^^^ up there.

Shows the core and the core support opening.

Well the broadcast sheet and the Harrison Tag match.
I know the history, am the third owner.
As I have seen before there are many exceptions to every "ONLY CAME WITH" on chevelles and el caminos.
This is the original radiator.

Re: 69 350 AT no ac NEED RADIATOR

Since it looks like you are sticking to a restoration theme, I would go with a 3 core brass radiator,

USradiators 005154ANH $457.50 http://www.usradiator.com/chevrolet-...50-radiator.ht 005154ANH

For 50.00 more you can up grade to a 4 row.

If your current radiator is still in good shape you can have it cleaned and rodded out by a local shop. They can even recore it so you can retain your stock tanks.

Autozone probably has cheaper Hehco in Mexico radiators available.

If you want an aluminum radiator, go with one that has 2 rows of atleast 1 inch tubes and contains no epoxy.

How many rows does your current radiator have? Open the cap and count the rows. It's probably a 2 or 3.

Thanks. That looks perfect. Pricey but perfect.
My current radiator is 2 row.
I will buy a 3-4 row for some more efficiency.

I bought that one 5154ANH

Going to take about 3 weeks before I see it.

There is no doubt in my mind that the radiator and 3 bolt top plate are correct for your El Camino.

This is his broadcast sheet pulled from his build thread.

That will be a good radiator for you. When you receive it, unbox and check for damage before you sign for it. You'll be happy to know that it is Made In America,

You should know that the more Tubes you have in a Rad
does not mean the more/better the Rad will cool down the Coolant

Air Flow is affected with the # of Rows of Tubes it has to go thru
thus there is more of a restriction of Air Flow with 3/4 Rows of Tubes which are smaller
than 2 Rows of 1.25" Tubes and less of a Restriction of Air Flow

See this Thread https://www.chevelles.com/forums/32-...heating-3.html

" Re: Overheating
I like Kirk's dual 12 inch spals and you will see on the PDF specs link how the restriction reduces air flow. You start at 3160 cfm and by .6 inches of restriction (which is typical for thick radiator) flow drops to 2060 cfm. Make sure you got good wiring and alternator the fans draw 45 amps at load. You have the clearance so this would be a good choice. I would have done something like this but I only have like 3 inches of room and these fans are 4 inches tall. "

thanks Kirk. I spoke to the maker about that. More core makes it harder to get air through. makes total sense.
But he said for my application 3 row would be fine.
For a fan I have the original direct drive, no clutch.
He and others suggest I at least go to a fan clutch.

One thing to remember is I have a totally stock motor and I didnt have a cooling issue I had a broken radiator.

Thanks

The radiator you purchased is the perfect radiator to match you goals. A row copper/brass radiator will off higher heat rejection than a 2 row of the same composition. Aluminum and brass radiators are different animals. The same statement above does not hold true for an aluminum radiator. The stock fan and shroud will offer sufficient flow. I see your new radiator lasting for another 50 trouble free years. Where you get into issues is when you try to go electric and skimp on the fan and electrical system.

A clutch fan will help improve mileage and cut down on some fan noise when the fan is not needed for cooling.

Please help my 50 year prediction come true by using distilled water and coolant or the 50/50 premix coolants and changing the coolant every 5 years or 15,000 miles
