72 SS Dash swap. Dash vents different sizes??

So I restored a 72 Monte Carlo dash to replace my sweep dash. In the middle of swap and the dash vents are different sizes? The existing sweep dash vents are 3 1/4” diameter, but the MC dash vents are 3 3/4”? In addition the MC vent angles toward the side of the car and the existing one was straight. Am I missing something here? Obviously my existing duct work won’t fit the larger diameter vents.

Those are non A/C vents in that dash.

Well shucks. The MC non AC vents are fully restored with new chrome vents installed. I think I will just transition the duct mismatch with some silicone adapters.

Re: 72 SS Dash swap. Dash vents different sizes??

Brian, do you have A/C?
The transition pipe on the drivers side is unique for a round bezel dash. The pass side is the same for sweep/round dash if I recall correctly.
Dan has more expertise in this than I and he may be able to suggest the best outcome/direction to go.

I do have AC. For the AC ducts, both sides are 3 1/4” round dash vents. For the MC non-AC vents I have, both sides are 3 3/4” round, but the drivers side has a flat on the bottom. I think I can make it work using a 3 3/4” x 3 1/4” reducing elbow on the pass side. I will use a 3 3/4 coupling on the drivers side.

Re: 72 SS Dash swap. Dash vents different sizes??

If you have the A/C vents from the sweep dash, why don't you buy another set of the louvers and restore those. You can easily sell the non A/C vents you have restored now. Monte Carlo and Chevelle vent are all the same, along with Elcamino and Wagon for the 70-72 model years. If what you are trying to do does notwork out for you, I do have the correct duct for the SS/ Monte style dash.

So I bit the bullet and replaced the chrome from the non-AC MC vents to the correct smaller duct AC vents.

Just one of those things. Getting near the finish line and had to redo the vents. All good now. A new day for progress.
