Question How to turn off Windows 10 updates?

Anyone know how to turn off Windows 10 updates?

Two different laptops with Windows 10 updated and turned off wireless capability.
Not knowing hardly anything at all about Windows 10, I can't figure out how to turn the Wireless back on.
When I tried, it said Windows Defender would't allow it.

I played around with this one and got it setback to before the update occurred but I want to turn off future updates.
It's borrowed from a friend but he didn't say for how long so I'm thinking maybe ten or fifteen years
(don't want to give it back not working)

So far what I've learned about Windows 10 in the last week or so is that I HATE it.

Simple answer, don't turn off updates. You can delay them, but not a good idea. The entire world is trying to hack into US pcs, you don't want to be on the receiving end. If you are losing wireless after updates, I would bet it is something else. Are they the same make/model?

Re: How to turn off Windows 10 updates?

DEan, I googled your problem and here is one of several possible options for keeping the Nettwork Adapter alive:

When your system is idle for a while Win10 is turning off your wireless adapter. It does this for "safety".

Go to 'available wireless networks' in the task bar and right click on your network name. Choose: Properties

Under "Network Profile" it will offer 'public' and 'private'. Choose 'private'.

Now Win10 will no longer shut off your wireless adapter.

I read one time that if you configure your internet connection as "Metered", it won't automatically do updates.

Tried the metered thing on mine. Didn't do diddly squat.

Mine keeps updating then removing the updates. What a pain in the ass! The whole ordeal takes my lap top over for 10 minutes.

Re: How to turn off Windows 10 updates?

Pause the updates. You can find it in the Advanced options section of the Update & Security portion of the settings. You can pause them for 35 days. I truly wish they would give us the option to block certain updates without major hassles (it is a pain to block updates now). The installing and rolling back (because Microsoft is incompetent) is not only annoying, but it places unnecessary wear on SSDs (solid state drives). It seems to mostly be affecting machines with older AMD processors, but some Intel processors are being affected, too.

I just keep pausing updates and only install the spring and fall major 'upgrades' manually when they are released. As for the WiFi not working, it might be a 'Microsoft' driver causing the issue. Every time I install the major 'upgrades', I have to edit the registry to remove one stupid thing that Microsoft puts in there that kills my printers. They are doing some really stupid things these days.
