not a chevelle question but need help w/niece's car

My niece has a 1992 Pontiac Bonneville and she drove it to my house, she said when she would get to a stop, the radio died, and the signal lights, but the power windows still worked, then she had to floor the gas pedal to get it to move and the car barely crawled, but the radio came back on, then went back off when she slowed down (her battery is a month old). Please help.

Not a great guess but take a look at the alternator output. The alternator may have died.

Had the same thing on a 98 Blazer, windows still worked after it died. I guessed it was alt because it was 20 miles away and I had to go retrieve it. By the time I changed the alt the battery had recovered enough to start it, been fine ever since.

Re: not a chevelle question but need help w/niece's car

My wife drives a '92 Bonneville and we had a similar problem. It turned out to be the dual positive battery cables. They have a long bolt connecting them to the battery with a spacer between them. The connection looked fine, but when I disconnected them I found mucho corrosion inside between the cables and the spacer. Got some battery cleaner and a brush anr cleaned everything and the problem vanished. It's worth a look. Hope this helps
