Which wires are what on a Sun tacho

Hey guys. My uncle just bought a sun tacho off ebay. It looks to be a late 70's early 80's type. Problem is it has no wires comming from the back of it, only the (what appears to be) the brass solder points to where the wires used to be soldered to. Here's a couple of picks....

So if anyone knows, by looking at the picture, what wire goes at 12 o'clock, 3 o'clock, 6 o'clock and 9 o'clock, I'd be greatful.

Appriciate any input

I'll be able to tell you when I get home today, if some one hasn't already. Good luck.

Re: Which wires are what on a Sun tacho

I have one almost identical to that. Clockwise beginning at the top/center (12 o'clock) is:

Trigger - Coil (-) - Green wire
Battery - Switched (+) - Red wire
Ground - Ground (-) - Black wire
Light - Dash Lights - White or Blue wire

Go to this link for some interesting info on Sun Tachs.

US$48 + postage is what I paid for it. Thats fairly cheap for its condition. If you do an ebay search there is a heap on there. Good luck.

Re: Which wires are what on a Sun tacho

Thanks OzRod, Probably should be using the old Sun Tach instead of my new After market Kneeknocker one. Found out it won,t work with the MSD inition I had put in.. Went through weeks of heart ache with it before we found out it need alot added to make it work. The Tech people we have been talking to said to send it in and for free they will make it work for my car.. Free!!! WOW!!! Thanks for your help...

Re: Which wires are what on a Sun tacho

Its funny this has been brought up. I have a Sun Tach identical to that and didnt realize that the wires could be removed from that location. Mine is identical to that also. And for some reason, all 4 wires are the same color, blue. I never bothered to label the wires when I took it off the car. Didnt think I would realize this problem until I got it out. I do believe that there is small castings in the housing or the circiut that tell which one goes where. On mine I think they were labeled. Havent looked at it in years though.

If it aint broke, just give me a minute.

Waynesworld,

Yeah its great to hear there are GOOD people still out there.

Chris R,

I don't think the wires are supposed to be removed. Just looked like some one ripped em out. We soldered the wires back in and installed it. Works a treat! Thanks again guys for the help!
