Battery in trunk/Disconnect switch

I am going to be mounting the battery in the trunk on my chevelle. I plan on racing it eventually so i guess i will need to have a disconnect switch.

What kind of switch will I need? It sounds like you have to disconnect the battery and the alternator to kill the motor. Do I run the alt to battery wire all the way to the back of the car to the switch? Or is there a better way to do this? Also, what disconnect switch do you guys reccomend?
