Are you calling the relay's operating coil a relay solenoid?
Power from the starter solenoid's "S" terminal connected to the original resistive wire ? If so, the starter would stay engauged anytime the key is on.
The starter solenoid's "S" wire is purple, where are you getting the red wire?
The yellow wire on the starter solenoid's "R" terminal is for bypassing 12 volts to the coil during starter operation.
