Gas Gauge

When I got my car (64) there was a box in the trunk, it had a box with pieces and parts of 3 SS dash panels. I know that the tank sender is different between a 64 and a 65, 30 ohm vs 90 ohm. Is there a simple test to see if the gauge itself is for a 30 or 90 ohm sender?

Re: Gas Gauge

Put an ohm meter on the sender pin and ground. Sweep the float and it should show 0-30 or 0-90 depending on what it is.

Re: Gas Gauge

Not the sender I know its a 30 ohm unit. I need to know how to check the gauge so that it matchs the sender.

Re: Gas Gauge

A lot of info there but not the answer. Do you have both sending units to just try them? I guess try the one you have and see how it works. You are not going to hurt anything by trying the wrong one. It just won't read right.

Re: Gas Gauge

Thanks Bill. You can do what Bill suggests. If you have a 12 V source for power at the rear of the car simply hook the sender to the gauges(and ground) and see what it reads.

If the gauges have part numbers, someone may have the data for them.
