Instrument panel wiring harness

72 non-air car with standard (not SS) gauges. Removing the dash, but canít figure out how to detach the wiring harness from the instrument panel. Any words of wisdom would be appreciated. (the cig. lighter disconnect is also fighting me). Thanks

Re: Instrument panel wiring harness

Remove the top dash pad first.....disconnect the speedo cable......doing this will give you enough slack in the harness to pull the guage panel out of the dash. With the guages pulled away, you should have enough room to disconnect the harness. It has been a while since I last removed guages, but if I remember correctly, the windshield wiper switch and the headlight switch will need to remain with the guage panel (though the harness will be disconnected from said switches). Some of the dash bulbs will pop right off the back of the guage cluster (idiot bulbs and blinker indicator bulbs). I think (but am not certain) that there are tiny bolts attaching the guage cluster to the back-side of the guage panel....I think the bolts are 5/16.....real tiny. I mention this because one of those bolts is a negative ground and has an eyelet loop/wire attached to it. Not sure though.

Dash wiring - Iím stumped

í72 with sweep dash. Iím SO close to getting the dash out, but there is a horizontal grouping of 3 ďplugsĒ going into the left side of the instrument panel that I canít figure out. They look like theyíre molded into the instrument cluster. Do I have to get to them from the front somehow, or do I just go for it & try to pry them out from the back. Thanks!

Re: Dash wiring - Iím stumped

IIRC there is a bezel at the front that may have to be removed to get at some screws to release that light cluster?????????????????????

Re: Instrument panel wiring harness

To simplify: How are the turn signal indicator bulb sockets attached to the rear of the instrument cluster? Twist, pull, orÖ?
