Fuel Guage Sending Unit Help Needed

Guys I know this topic has been beat to death but hear goes my issue.

Did a complete restoration with new dash and gauges stock from Ground Up. I have new sending unit as well and it seemed to work during the initial construction.

Now the car is all done and when I plug it in the gas gauge goes to empty and when I unplug it to full.

I went out and bought new sending unit and when I plug it in and lift the float all the way up I get 1/2 tank registering on gas gauge.

Its a new gauge and my second sending unit why in the full motion will it only register 1/2 a tank on gauge.

Re: Fuel Guage Sending Unit Help Needed

Roy,

Unplug the sending unit wire in the rear of the vehicle. (Tan wire, not brown).

Leave the connection that goes to the tank dangle.

The connection that leads back into the vehicle should dangle as well. Key "ON". Gauge should read past full.

Take scrap piece of wire. Stick one end into the connection that leads back into the vehicle. The other end gets touched to a GOOD ground. Key "ON". Gauge should read completely empty.

If gauge registers appropriately, the fault is not in the gauge.
