can anyone tell me what the black wire in the connector , on the back of the fuel gauge ( with the huge wire end on it ) is? and where it connects to ? i didn't tare this car down, but im trying to wire the dash up using the original under dash harness., It is a 1969 chevelle , and i have no idea what it is, i assume ground but it seems to have a small amount of power in it...any help would be useful...thanks, Ed

Re: wiring

I can check my old harness tonight, but according to the diagram I have, there are only 2 wires on the fuel gauge. a pink which was 12v from fuseblock which also went to temp, oil, alt and brake indicators and a yellow or tan wire which is the wire from the sending unit. the only large connector I remember is a big ring terminal about 1 inch diameter that connects to the housing of the cigarette lighter on the dash. that was a black wire.

Re: wiring

hey thanks alot 04Z06vette , that is where it goes (back of lighter) i think 68 's only have two wires, this 69 has three and this wire is connected to the middle one (apparently ground), but after seeing your reply i looked closer and i could see a faded ring where it rubbed the lighter housing and thats it...thanks again
