Unhappy HEI TACH output high voltage

Im measuring high voltage on TACH output, is it possible? I measured as high as 1000v dc, measuring beetwen +12 and TACH, Anyone knows how to solve that? Is it the coil issue? module? Itś a big issue Ill fry another Tachometer if I connect again...

Re: HEI TACH output high voltage

With a bit of luck, Dave Ray will be able to answer your question. He is very well informed on ignition technology. I am thinking that there should be a capacitor to absorb that 1000V spike that you are seeing. Are you using a peak reading voltmeter to get that number?

Re: HEI TACH output high voltage

Theres going to be a high voltage if you check it like that. When a coil fires it produces voltage on the primary side too. Whats the actual problem?is the tach not working

Re: HEI TACH output high voltage

The problem is that i bougth a new tachometer then connected to the tach output and it never worked.. So i went to to the seller and he gave me a new one. I measured the output and realizado that maybe the high voltage caused malfunction un the precios tach.. So i don't want to fry a new tach.. That's all

Re: HEI TACH output high voltage

What kind of tach are you using? Some tachs including the factory need a filter or resister do to the high voltage on the tach terminal
