A question about running lights

I have a 68 Chevelle, and it is the first one I have owned. I have a question about the rear running lights

My rear running lights in my bumper are always on when the car is running, with the lights off, and on, etc, always on. Is this normal? or are they only supposed to come on when I pull the light knob?

I am thinking this is not normal, that they should not be on all of the time. If so, what do you think the problem is? Is is possibly the light switch that is bad?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Re: A question about running lights

The running lights should be in the quarter extensions. Are you talking about the back up lights? If so, the back up light switch must be on all the time, or failed.

Re: A question about running lights

Sounds like you are talking about Reverse lights aka Back-up lights. The only thing I can think of mounted in the bumper of a '68.

Yes, either the switch is bad, mis-adjusted or "creatively rewired" by a previous owner.
The type of transmission dictates the factory placement of the switch.

Front Side marker lights are found on the front fenders. '68s did not have rear side marker lamps, the design of the rear tail/brake lamp lens provided light from the side to meet federal requirements.

Re: A question about running lights

ok, yes. They would be the back up lights. I have a 2 speed power glide. Where is the switch that needs adjustment? Thank you
