Under dash mystery item? What is this?

Hey guys, I am trying to clean up the wiring under my dash ('67 el co) and have this thing hanging up there. What is it and what does it do? I think there used to be a yellow casing on it that has since crumbled away if that is of any help. I would appreciate any info I can get! Thanks!

Looks like a nice heavy flasher that has the glass broke.

Ok great, is it supposed to be mounted or just kind of tucked up in there under the dash? Also, since the glass is broken apparently, should I replace the whole unit or is there placement glass I can get?

I would look locally. Flasher modules of all kinds can be found at good auto parts stores.
