Coolant temp sender - interchangeable?

I installed an SS gauge dash, and the official sender has a naihead type of end, I guess for some kind of slip on connector. The wiring harness wire has an eye connector.

I previously had an aftermarket gauge panel under the dash, and that connector had the screw end.

Rather than try to fashion a clip into the harness wire, could I simply use the sender from the other gauge? Are temp senders roughly interchangeable? Or is there something unique about their insides?

Here's the aftermarket sender:Click image for larger version

And because I can't figure out how to load two photos onto the same post, here's the stock sender:

That is not the correct stock sender for a 70. That is a 1513321 which was only correct for the 1957-57 applications, but was later serviced by GM to fit all cars with gauges. The 100% correct sender for 1970 is a 1513462 and it has a threaded stud and the wire has a ring terminal/eyelet which gets attached to the sender with a not and washer. This unit was used on ALL factory gauge Chevelle models from 1969 thru 72 (and some others as well). They are available as we have the correct repro in our catalog.
