Has Anyone Used One Of These As A Column-Mount Tach?

This is just another one of my one-off ideas, but I think this would look cool mounted perfectly centered on top of the column. The shape should allow it to fit close to the dash without covering the speedo numbers. If I used one of these hood tachs, I would have to shorten the back of it as much as possible so it's not too long, also to give it a flat back to fit up against the speedo face as close as possible. Here are some pics just for ideas. Suggestions are highly appreciated!Attachment 141594Click image for larger version

I don't think it would work because of that cylinder on the bottom for the tach "motor," plus (IMO) it would look less than intelligent (i.e. stupid).

I've thought about trying to mount something like that in the dash of a 66 in the switch strip above the speedo but that unit you have is probably too big.

I will shorten it as much as possible, with my limit dependant on where the internals are located.

It only rotates if I manually turn the collar. It is a very snug collar and won't move by itself.

I think the potential cool factor here is to have a tach mounted right in the center of the speedo (and still see the speedo) and be able to see both of them in the same view.

Why not just mount it in the hood where it belongs?

Your just jealous because you can't hear the voices!

A Chevelle hood isn't made for one of these tachs. This is just an idea...nothing set in stone. I was hoping to get a few ideas to add to my idea. I don't own the tach in my pics. It's just a pic I found to illustrate my idea. Maybe there is another odd-shaped tach out there that will better suit what I'm trying to do.
