Trouble fitting alternator spacer with Vortec heads

My '69 350 is using Vortec heads, and I'm wondering if the spacing is different to older heads? My car came with '882 heads originally.

This is the spacer:



Here is a photo showing the brace where I think it's supposed to go. (I have clocked the alternator all the way over so we can see better.) When I rotate the spacer around, the "arm" of the spacer doesn't quite line up with the bottom hole on the cylinder head.



Will I need to modify the brace, or am I putting things in the wrong place? Is the hole in the tab of the brace supposed to go over the ground post on the alternator?
