Can a 71 wiper motor be used on a 70? Are all the plugs the same?

should be the same as what you have now
there were some differences in the 68-69 cars whether or not they had hidden wipers,
think all the 70-72 had hidden wipers though

Just for completeness of information, my 72 has the non-hidden ("square" motor) wipers. It's probably not the only one.

Re: Can a 71 wiper motor be used on a 70?

Ok, just for some '68-'72 clarification, if the vehicle is equipped with hidden (depressed park) wipers, it got a "round" motor. Non-hidden wipers got the "rectangular" motor which lacked the mechanism to hide the wipers below the hood line when turned off.

Hidden vs. Non-hidden was due to the trim option/style.

The Malibus and SS platform automatically got hidden wipers. Base/stripped down models (previously called 300 Deluxe models for example) got non-hidden. I'm not sure about all the cans and can'ts on the wagon models for the corresponding years.

Switches are also different for non-hidden wipers although visually they may look exactly the same to the casual observer. They provide the ground functions out differently.

Joe - Can you tell from this pic if it's square or round?

Re: Can a 71 wiper motor be used on a 70?

Don,

You go by the motor part.

Although that is obscured in the picture, what you have shown is the round, depressed (hidden park) motor. The rectangular motor is quite obvious, it sticks straight out from the firewall.
